Ice-Cream + Beer = Collective Arts Brewing - Series 4

Hi friends! I got some exciting news this week - that this little, quirky illustration below will soon appear on beer labels from Collective Arts Brewing, as part of their Series Four craft beer. Thanks so much Collective Arts! :)

Series Four is scheduled to be available to the public by mid-March 2015.
There will also be a Reveal Party at THE GARRISON, 1197 Dundas Street West in Toronto, on February 19, 7:30PM. I probably won't be able to make it, but if you're in the area, you should check it out! More details & RSVP here.

Check out all the other artists of Series Four via {this link}!
"I don't always eat ice-cream, but when I do - I choose my cone carefully."
Additional info:
- This illustration, along with a few of my other pieces, was part of one The Postcard Shows.
- Rendered with micron pen, waterproof inks, and white pencil.
- Prints + etc available on Society6 + RedBubble + DesignByHumans

Update - March 25th, 2014:

Recently, I received my sample bottle in the mail and I took a few photos to share. It looked wonderful in person!

The mini print of "Ice-Cream Cones" in the photos is a postcard print ordered from Moo.com.

Cheers!

Cedric the Snooze

"Cedric the Snooze"

Cedric the Snooze
drank too much booze,
so on pillows he drifted,
till his spirits were lifted.

That was another sketchbook doodle I've completed recently, accompanied by an impromptu poem.

Happy Sunday!

Alphabet + Frivoli-Tea

This week's Decorative Illustration Project!
Our theme was illustrated typography and for the first part of the project we were to invent/illustrate our own alphabet. Mine was on things, mostly kitchen things, that are used to hold or deal with liquids:

Media:
`micron pens
`waterproof colour inks
`assembled digitally in Photoshop

And for the 2nd part of the project we were to illustrated an onomatopoeia word or a play on words of sorts. I chose to illustrate "Frivolity" which I turned into - "Frivoli-TEA". And I absolutely feel a series coming out of this pun. =)

This is the original version
But then I also decided to create my own hand drawn background pattern...

And I actually colorized it in Photoshop to be more of a light blue colour and put it behind my image=)

Materials:
`9 x 11 Bristol Smooth Paper
`Prismacolor pens
`Micron pens
`Koh-i-Noor waterproof colour inks

Oh, and now I'm also on letterplayground.com! A great place for illustrated letters and inspiration=)

Happy Thursday!

Art School Comics

Here is the assignment for our Illustration: Narrative Structures class, which is basically a class where we learn and draw comics. We had 3 comic assignments this semester - and the one below is a group project where we were to tell a story, or a few, about our Art School/Emily Carr University experiences. An assignment inspired by the Art School Confidential comic by Daniel Clowes.

So this is ours:

Pencils: by Jori
Inks: by Caitlin
Colouring/lettering/editing: Me (Mariya) :)
*Coloured in Photoshop

Can't Rain On My Parade

7x7 inches/coloured pencil crayons/fine black ink pen
Hi there!
This is my third assignment for my Illustration class. It's a psychological self portrait. Can you guess what it's supposed to portray? (I hope so!!) It's my positive attitude conquering any things that could possibly bring me down. That is my outlook on life, my philosophy. And it has been greatly encouraged by The Power - a book by Rhonda Byrne, the author of The Secret. I recommend it!
