On the Cover

Final project for the summer Editorial Illustration class:

Create an illustration that would serve as cover art for a magazine.

I chose this article to illustrate: "Visible Man: Ethics in a world without secrets" by Peter Singer

At first I had these 2 ideas:

I personally really liked this one. I would have gone detail crazy!!

But then all the sudden I had a new idea:

I thought..."well, this seems like something I wouldn't do because I hate difficult perspectives...so I should make myself try it"

And here is how it turned out in the end:

But I'm really a New Yorker type of reader and I thought my illustration would look better on their magazine like so:

Somewhere Only We Know

Summer Illustration Course - Assignment 3

For this project we to go crazy and illustrate something that was inspired by a speech, literary passage poem, or song.
I illustrated my interpretation of the song: "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane, specifically this passage:

“I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?”

Toddler Training

Editorial Illustration class project #2.
In short: to create an 8 x 10'' illustration for an article that you are interested in - one that moves you.

So I chose to do another health + children related article on how children should be doing (fun) exercises as early on in life as possible to not only promote healthy habits that will combat obesity, but also to promote correct bone and muscle development.

Originally I started painting my illustration using acrylics, but due to some time constraints I was running into I re-started and completed the piece using primarily waterproof coloured inks.

Subtleties of Light

I was back in the (traditional) darkroom developing and printing B&W photos last week. It was for a photography assignment for one of my classes. In short, we were to focus on how light touches its subjects.
